Dissolved Air Flotation Advantages for Waste Water Treatment Plant

DISSOLVED AIR FLOTATION (DAF)

ON FACTORY WATER TREATMENT PLANT

Recently, PT Zefa Valindo Jaya was trusted to build a waste water treatment system or WWTP using Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) technology at one of the leading skin care product and wound plaster factories.

The DAF has 10m3/hour capacity, with construction materials using SS 316L stainless steel. The DAF system can eliminate the COD parameter ±10%. The COD parameter shown is TSS.

What is Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)?

DAF or flotation technology in wastewater treatment is used to separate suspended solids, oil, fat, floc in chemical wastewater treatment processes, and sludge (microbes) in biological processes.

Flotation events are based on the presence of gas bubbles. Gas bubbles are created using air that injected into wastewater. When air pressure released into water, millions of tiny bubbles will form. These bubbles stick to any particles in the water, causing their density to be smaller than the density of water. The particles then quickly float to the surface to be collected and removed, leaving clearer water.

What are the Advantages of Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)?

The main advantage of flotation compared to sedimentation in terms of separating suspended solids is that flotation can separate suspended solids that are very small, light, and difficult to settle in a relatively short time.

In the flotation process, air is injected into the tank to form bubbles which function to float the solids so they can be easily separated. With the push of these bubbles, solids with a specific gravity higher than water will be pushed to the surface. Likewise with solid objects whose specific gravity is lower than water. This is an advantage of using the flotation technique compared to precipitation, because with flotation light particles can be removed at the same time.

Where Can Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) be Implemented?

DAF can be used in the following industries:

  • Separation or recycling of waste oil or fat
  • Oil and Gas Industry (Upstream or Downstream), biodiesel, machinery, F & B production, etc
  • High concentration organic wastewater treatment
  • Paper, printing and dyeing, textile, leather, pharmaceutical, fermentation wastewater and so on
  • Separation of biochemical waste liquid
  • Anaerobic waste solid-liquid separation, aerobic (activated sludge process, contact oxidation, filter) biochemical water solid-liquid separation, secondary settling tank Waste treatment and so on.
  • Treatment of livestock and slaughterhouse wastewater: cattle, pigs, chicken farms, slaughterhouse wastewater
  • Waste products of electroplating, painting, etc
  • Processing river water, recycled water, sea water, etc
  • Power plants
  • Etc
